Thomas Pheasant is internationally recognized for his more than 40 years of creating interiors and furniture. With personal residences in Washington, D.C. and Paris, he focuses his creativity on residential and commercial projects throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. Amongst his most honored projects was his 8-year collaboration on the historic Blair House – the President’s Guest House on Pennsylvania Avenue across from the White House.
Celebrated for his modern vision of classical design his diverse accomplishments have included the 1997 Andrew Martin International Designer of the Year Award, the distinction by Architectural Digest in 2005 as a Dean of American Design, his inclusion in AD 100 for 16 consecutive years, the 2015 John Russell Pope Award by the Institute of Classical Architecture, and the 2016 Design Icon Award for his contributions to the design industry.
In 2019 he began a creative adventure with Par Excellence, a Collective of the finest French craftsmen which resulted in the creation by Pheasant of a curated collection of bespoke furniture pieces and decorative elements and the Par Excellence flagship showroom in New York City, for which Pheasant received the 2023 NYCxDESIGN Award for Small Showroom presented by Interior Design Magazine.
Most recently he received the ASID 2024 Monuments of Design Award for his impact on design both nationally and internationally and was once again honored with the 2025 John Russell Pope Award for his redecoration of the Benjamin Franklin State Dining Room, the largest of the State Department’s Diplomatic Rooms. He continues to be widely published in the most prestigious architectural and interior design magazines around the world.
His book, Simply Serene: The New Luxury for Modern Interiors, published by Rizzoli, brings to life the serenity and classic imprint that are Pheasant’s signature.
Other creative endeavors and collaborations are represented by his educational mentorship as a visiting lecturer at École Boulle in Paris, where he works with students to bridge the gap between traditional craftsmanship and modern design, his furniture design collections which include the Thomas Pheasant Collection for Baker, the Thomas Pheasant Collection for McGuire, his latest collection of rugs for Ben Soleimani and his own collection of limited edition and unique pieces, Thomas Pheasant STUDIO.
